NELLE B. HAWKINS
Nelle B. Hawkins, 100, of Kenna, WV, passed away, March 18, 2014, at the Ravenswood Care Center. Nelle was born in New Freeport, PA, October 18, 1913, and grew up in Fairmont, WV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Florence (Stiles) Boggess, her husband Carroll R. Hawkins, sister, Grace Duncan, and brother, Walter Boggess.
Nelle had a masters degree in education from WVU and taught 4th grade at Sissonville Elementary School, retiring in 1975. She loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and 44 countries. Her other interests included gardening, fishing, and playing bridge with her friends.
She is survived by a son, Kent Hawkins and his wife, Janice of Kenna; grandsons, David (Jennifer) Hawkins of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Steven (Erin) Hawkins of Winston Salem, NC, and four great grandsons, Jacob, Nathan, Lucien and Caleb Hawkins.
The family wishes to thank the loving staff of the Ravenswood Care Center, and the entire Hospice organization for the care they extended to Nelle.
Funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood, WV, with John Gunther officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 86 County Farm Road, Cottageville, WV 25231. Nelle was especially fond of dogs and cats.
