Individual Note:
     Thomas White was horn April 13, 1821, and died August 23, 1905, near Wadestown, W. Va. Well trained by Chris¬tian parents; he was converted at the age. of eighteen, at Walnut Grove camp-meeting, near Martin's Ferry, Ohio, and joined Fourth Street Church, 'Wheeling, while temporarily employed there. He was married in 1843 to Cynthia A. Hennen. His second marriage was to Rebecca Hennen. He was throughout life a steadfast, consistent, useful man, remarkable for his systematic church-going and Christian liberality. Wise in counsel and public-spirited, he exerted a wide influence in favor of all that is good. His house was, to the end, the preacher's home, and his hospitality free and genial. . He was for more than fifty years a subscriber to the ADVOCATE.. All his chilc1ren are in the church of their father, and in the way of usefulness, His last illness was protracted and painful, but was attended with patience and trust, and his end was peace. His funeral occurred on, the annual day for the Whites; reunion, an occation observed for many years in a grove near by, and the great concourse of relatives and friends constituted a reunion. But Thomas had gone the day before the great reunion of the saints in heaven. Signed: M. W. Rider.

Harold L. Stiles, 91, of Brave, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.


He was born December 16, 1924 at Wadestown, West Virginia, a son of the late Milton Stiles and Blanche Tennant Stiles Goodnight.


Mr. Stiles was a retired mason. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of Local #215 Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers; the Waynesburg Lodge 153 F & AM Masonic Lodge; and the Kent’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Brave.

Harold was an avid golfer. He loved the game and could be often found on the golf course.


Surviving is his second wife, Bessie Six Stiles; one son, Allan Curtis Stiles and his wife Mary Jo of Mt. Holly, North Carolina; one brother, Wayne Stiles and his wife Jean of Morgantown; one sister, Lucille Kennedy of York; two grandsons, Andrew Stiles and Tyler Stiles; four step-grandchildren, Kyle Varner, Chyanna Varner, Angela Varner, and Justin Umstead and one step-great-grandchild, Molly Umstead.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Stiles; one brother, Edgar Stiles; one son, Gary Stiles; and two step-sons, Richard Lee Varner and Scott Eugene Varner.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, West Virginia from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Monica Calvert officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson.
