Geraldine Arwilla Stiles Parrish


— Geraldine Arwilla Stiles Parrish, 82, passed away at the Levine and Dickson Hospice near Charlotte, NC, on April 18, 2018.
She was the sixth of nine children born at home on Route 1, Shinnston, WV, to her late parents, Willie Edgar Stiles and Elsie Marie Fortney Stiles.
She was preceded in death in April 2017 by her husband of 61 years, Edgar David Parrish. One child, Linda Ann Parrish Klein, of Indian Land, SC, survives her.
Geraldine’s remaining family members include one of nine children, Gladys Ruth Stiles Duffield of Akron, OH; sisters-in-law, Nancy Parrish (Elwood) Sandy and Carol Parrish (Bernie) Pierce both of Enterprise, WV, Bobbie Jane Conaway (Charles “Pete”) Parrish of Shinnston, WV, Joyce Brookover (Paul) Parrish of Clarksburg, WV, Vicki Parrish (Butch) Chrislip of Idamay, Doris Jean Kester (Ed) Stiles of Clarksburg, WV, and Marlene (second wife of Victor “Vic” Parrish) of New Mexico.
Brothers-in-law include, Daniel “Danny” Selkirk Parrish of Fullerton, CA, and John Michael “Mike” (Lucy) Parrish of Clarksburg, WV; many nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Edgar Marshall Stiles, Martha May Stiles (Robert) Gates, Clarice Jean Stiles (Brooks) Kester, Helen Marie Stiles (Carl) Butcher, Raymond Byrl Stiles and twin brothers David Eugene and Darrell Edward.
She was also preceded in death by sister-in-law, Shirley Parrish (Tony) Roberts and Wanda Kay Bussy (first wife of Victor “Vic” Parrish).
Geraldine graduated from Shinnston High School in 1954 and spent most of her working years at Westinghouse/Philips Lighting.
Geraldine, a.k.a. “Billie” and “Arwilla,” was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She laughed easily, never met a stranger and was extremely hard working, kind-hearted and generous especially with her cooking and baking.
A living memorial and tribute will be held at the Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston, WV, on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 2-4 p.m.

Obituary for Edgar Parrish


Edgar David Parrish, 85, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away peacefully at home in hospice care on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, after a 9 year diagnosis of dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine (Gerry) Arwilla Stiles Parrish and his daughter Linda Ann Parrish (Klein) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
David was born in Enterprise, WV, the fourth child of the late Charles and Ada Gurley Parrish. David is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Nancy Sandy and Carol Pierce, both of Enterprise, Vicki Chrislip and husband Butch of Idamay, WV, John Michael “Mike” Parrish and wife Lucy of Clarksburg, WV and Daniel “Danny” Selkirk Parrish of Fullerton, CA. David is also survived by sisters-in-laws: Joyce Parrish of Clarksburg (wife of Paul Parrish), Bobbie Jane Parrish (wife of Charles “Pete” Parrish) of Shinnston and Wanda Kay Bussy (1st wife of Victor “Vic” Parrish, now deceased) and Marlene (2nd wife of Victor “Vic” Parrish) of New Mexico, Ruth Stiles (Duffield) of Akron, Ohio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and 3 sisters: Charles “Pete”, Paul Dean, Victor Allen “Vic” and Roger (infant) and Shirley Ann (Roberts) and two young sisters, Jessie and Martha Ray (nicknamed “Patty”).
David enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 8, 1952, did basic training in Indian Gap, PA and served as a medic in the Korean War in the 3rd Infantry Division – 64th Tank Battalion until honorably discharged in September, 1955.
Work life was mostly spent over 32 years on the B&O Railroad (Chessie System) as a brakeman and conductor.
A living memorial and tribute will be held at Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston on Tuesday, May 9th from 6 PM to 8 PM. Our sweet husband and father will be laid to rest at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery and there will be US military honor service on Wednesday, May 10th at 11 AM.
