ELKINS — Ireta “Jane” Wilt Hardesty, 85, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oakland, Md., where she had been a resident for the past year. Before transferring to Oakland, Md., she had been a resident at Lavender Fields Assisted Living in Beverly and Colonial Place in Elkins.
Jane was born May 11, 1932, in Howesville, a daughter of the late Alton Wilt and Nellie Mae Weaver Wilt. On Sept. 29, 1951, in Mountain Lake Park, Md., she married Elmer C. Hardesty, who preceded her in death October 11, 2012. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Laurella Lawrence and husband Mike, and Mark Hardesty and wife Dawn, all of Elkins; one sister, Shirley Grimm and husband Jim of Sebring, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Wilhelm of Kingwood; five grandchildren, Jeff Shifflett of White Sulphur Springs, Heather Shifflett of High Point, N.C., Pastor Dan Hardesty and wife Jessica of Kingwood, Kelly Roth and husband Kevin of Midland, Ga., and Scott Hardesty of Elkins; four great-grandchildren, Amos Hardesty, Kailey Shifflett, Amyah Harris and Elizabeth “Bethy” Hardesty.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was one son, Larry Hardesty, and one brother, Thomas A. Wilt.
Jane enjoyed being a homemaker and especially camping with her husband and grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Oakland Nursing, Lavender Fields and Colonial Place for the special loving care given to Jane.
Jane’s request for cremation will be honored. A graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood on Saturday, Dec. 16, with Pastor Dan Hardesty officiating, and interment followed.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rosemary (Phillips); sisters, Helen Jones of Belington, WV. And Freda (Orval Lee) Proudfoot of Philippi, WV; brothers Clifford (Nancy) Wilt of Tampa, FL., and Cecil (Cathy) Wilt of Fayetteville, NC; sisters-in-law, Judi Wilt of Mentor, OH, Vivian Wilt of Chesterland, OH, and Mary Jo Phillips of Median, OH; brothers-in-law, John K. Phillips of Philippi, WV, and Ralph D. Phillips of Ft Myers, FL., many nieces, nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Harmon and LaVada (Wilhelm) Wilt; brothers, Harold and Everett Wilt; sister-in-law, Genevieve Phillips and brother-in-law, Earl Jones.
Graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at Mt Vernon Memorial Cemetery Philippi, WV, section C. Family will receive friends 10-11 a. m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home, 216 North Walnut St. Philippi, WV 26416. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery, Philippi, WV.
