OBITUARIES
John J. Kundel Services Today In Ayrshire
Ayrshire - Services for John (Jack) Kundel of Ayrshire will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Linda Jean Myers will officiate.
Burial will be in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew, with military rites at graveside by members of the Ayrshire American Legion. The Martin Funeral Home, Emmetsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary bearers are Howard Merrill, Harry Stowell, Tom Conlon, James Leners, Lawrence Kassel, Don Kassel, Dale Loomis, Gene Herbers and Dr. John Hodges.
Casket bearers are Doug Merrill, Craig Merrill, Dave Kassel, Gary Heiman, Keith Peterson and James Darr, Jr.
The Little League Baseball players will be attending services as a group.
Masonic Services were held Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Kundel died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1986, at his home in Ayrshire. He was 65.
John J. Kundel was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Sutherland, the son of John C. and Emma (Swanson) Kundel. He graduated from Lake Center High School and attended Estherville Jr. College and Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Kundel served with the U. S. Army.
On Aug. 13, 1944, Jack Kundel and Louise Lyon were married at Ayrshire. The couple farmed in the Ayrshire area from 1945 to 1970. They owned and operated Kundel Grocery in Ayrshire from 1970 to 1983. Mr. Kundel was a member of the Ayrshire American Legion, VFW Post #2295, and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Louise; two children, John Kundel of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Karl Kundel of Lafayette, N.J.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Carl (Charlotte) Mathews of Salem, Ore.
Mr. Kundel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
