Obituary:
SHINNSTON — Mary Jo (Peggy) Mercer, daughter of the late Beulah Galmish O’Dell and the late Bernard L. O’Dell died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alexis and Michael Barnes of Shinnston; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Barbara O’Dell of Cunningham Road; four grandchildren, Miranda Barnes of Buckhannon, Dee Cayton and husband Tim of Weston, Mike Barnes and wife Shari of Shinnston, and Mitch Barnes and wife Jaime of Lumberport; eight great-grandchildren, Emma and Lillie Cayton, Mia Rae and Beckett Barnes, Brody, Aiden, Cullin, and Ellison Barnes; five stepsisters, Mindy Shingleton, Linda Hickman, Libby Hildreth, Martha Salerno and Mary Osborne; two stepbrothers, David Davis and Tom Moore; and a special niece, Lisa Reese of Bridgeport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Mercer; sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Eugene “Cheuch” Lopez; and a special nephew, David Lopez.
Peggy taught school in West Virginia, Virginia and South Carolina ending her career at Bridgeport, WV.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston from 2-7:30 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, with Pastor Kevin Nuzum officiating.
