Obituary for Rudy E. O'Dell


Retired Master Sgt. Rudy Eugene O’Dell, 76 of Hurricane, WV, passed away on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at Broadmore Assisted Living, Hurricane.


Rudy was born to the late Bernard and Pauline Martin O’Dell in Shinnston, WV.


He served his country in the US NAVY, and was retired from the WV State Police as a Master Sgt. Rudy was stationed in Winfield and Point Pleasant detachments, where he was the first WV State Trooper to respond to the Silver Bridge collapse.

He was instrumental in the identifying of each victim. He was a member at St. John’s Masonic Lodge #24 A.F. & A. M., Shinnston, WV.


Rudy was an avid card player, who also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and riding his ATV at his son’s farm.


Surviving Rudy are his son and daughter-in-law, Rudy Eugene O’Dell, II and Cynthia Evans O’Dell, grandson, Conner Evans, and his


cousins, Joyce Pelley-Jenkins, Roger Martin, George Martin, Frank Martin and Thelma Martin.


Funeral service for Rudy will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Pastor Cheryl L. Carey officiating.

Of Springfield, VA died on September 18, 2018 of Parkinson's disease. Charming wife of Virgil B. Harris, Jr. who died in 2012. Mother to Michael and Rachael Harris (Wendy). Loving grandmother to Ian, Anna and Cooper Millholland, Megan Dischley (David) and Chad Gerald (Jessica). Friends may call at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA on Friday, September 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held the following day, Saturday, September 29 at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.

Recent Deaths (Dec 9, 1916) Charles Pigott, aged 50 years, died at the home of his brother, Herbert Pigott, in West Shinnston, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock, of liver and kidney trouble.  Deceased

was never married and is survived by the following brothers and sister:  Marshall Pigott, of Bingamon; Herbert Pigott, of Shinnston; Fletcher Pigott, Bingamon; Benjamin Pigott, of Enterprise, Elmer Pigott, of Helen’s Run; Luther Pigott, of Prospect Valley, and two brothers who reside in the West; Mrs. Homer Michaels, of Ohio, and Mrs. Otto Martin, Bingamon.  Funeral services were held at the home of the brother on the West Side, Monday afternoon and were conducted by the Rev. McKain, pastor of the M.E. church.  Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Enterprise.
