Laura's Story


Laura Loreta Phillips, 91, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (Dec. 18, 2017) at the Maplewood Assisted Living in Bridgeport.
She was born July 18, 2017, in Rainelle, a daughter of the late Thomas Staten and Naoma Neff Reynolds. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Glenn Howard Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of LIFE United Methodist Church in Fairmont. She had previously worked at Owens-Illinois. Upon having her children, she became a homemaker in her own home, and later worked at Jones Department Store, Langs Fashions, the Colony Shop and Adams Office Supply.
Laura was a member of the Ladies Circle and the altar guild at church, as well as the Fairmont Woman's Club. She enjoyed cooking and baking, but most of all she loved spending time with her extended family. Her faith in the Lord, and her family were the most important aspects of her life. She was a loving and caring person and passed her joy of life on to her children.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Jean Boyers of Fairmont, and Rebecca Jane and her husband Michael Godfrey of Mohrsville, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Laura Lea and her husband John Chapman, Janie Lynn and her husband Jason Hawkins, Patricia Ann and her husband Jayson Higgins, Eric Matthew and his wife Nicole Godfrey, and Samantha Megan and her husband Jeremy Hurwitz; great-grandchildren, Gary Michael Chapman, Joshua Everett Hawkins, Ashlee Marie Higgins, Delaney Jayne Higgins, Sidney Marie Godfrey, Gavin Andrew Godfrey, Owen Matthew Godfrey and Layla Ann Hurwitz; her brother, Hanley and his wife Byrna Reynolds of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister, Lacta Calvert of Bridgeport; her sister-in-law, Betty Reynolds of St Albans; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Boyers; her brothers, Howard and his wife Ruth Reynolds, and Harold Reynolds; her sisters, Louie and her husband James Six, Lucille and her husband Ray Six, and Lorena Reynolds; and her brother-in-law, Herman "Bud" Calvert.
The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood Assisted Living, Amedysis Hospice and her many private caregivers for their kindness and compassionate care over the past year.
Friends and family may visit from 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Reverend Clyde Beard officiating. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

THOMAS, W.Va. — Arlene B. Rinehart, 93, a former resident of Aurora, West Virginia,
and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, West Virginia,
passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017. She had been in declining health for the past eight years.
She was born March 13, 1924, in Horse Shoe Run, West Virginia, a daughter of the late
Charlie A. and Dove M. Knotts Snyder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Victor in 1990; her
two sisters, Ruth Snyder and Mary Michaels; her three brothers, Cecil, Melvin, and Floyd;
and her daughter-in-law, Diana Rinehart in 2015. She was the last surviving member of her
immediate family.



She is survived by two daughters, Erma (and Bud) Kennedy, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,
and Betty (and Clyde) Cummings, Aurora, West Virginia; one son, Jim Rinehart, Oakland;
four grandchildren, Bradley, Roger, and Michael Cummings, and Rebecca (and Luke) Steadman;
and seven great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Andrew, Brevin, and Braelyn Cummings, and Jayden,
Ava, and Willow Steadman.
She was a homemaker, and enjoyed her grandchildren and working in her garden.
The family will receive friends at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, West Virginia, on
Thursday Dec. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral
service at Hinkle Funeral Chapel this Friday, Dec. 22, with the Rev. Mike Lantz officiating.



Interment will follow in the Stemple Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Arlene Rinehart’s memory may be made to
the Stemple Ridge Cemetery Fund to help with mowing expenses for the cemetery.
