Emigration: Individual Note: Eli Chew was buried at Donnybrook Cemetery along with 2 of his sons, they were Thomas James Chew died September 24, 1869 aged 4 months and Eli Chew died September 17, 1873 aged 17 years 3 months. Two other sons, John Chew died August 23, 1886, aged 27 years, and Richard Bennett Chew died July 23, 1886, aged 26 years, are buried together at Melbourne General Cemetery (Carlton) in the Presbyterian section N plot number 267. The youngest son Gilbert H. Chew died in 1890 aged 20 years. All of Eli's sons died young the longest living being John, David Russell Noakes' great grandfather who died at 27, his death certificate gives the cause of death as phthisis ( decay?). Eli himself also died at the relatively young age of 51 of hepititis.
